30 years arche noVa

11.10.2022 - 11:26 - World
arche noVa was founded in 1992 by a group of young people from Dresden. Today, the organisation coordinates projects in 14 countries on three continents from offices in Dresden and Berlin. The vision has remained the same since the founding: All over the world, people in need due to disasters and crises should be able to lead a self-determined life in dignity. In order to create the basis for this, arche noVa specialised early on in projects in the field of water and sanitation supply and hygiene education (WASH).

What we do

Worldwide, arche noVa provides humanitarian emergency and reconstruction aid and is involved in long-term development cooperation projects. Following the principle of helping people to help themselves, arche noVa works closely with local partner organisations and the people on the ground. Through educational work, arche noVa also empowers people to take responsibility for each other and for their environment. In Germany, this is done through project days at schools, global learning in youth work and the further training of teachers and educators, as well as the specialist unit Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in Saxony.

To the press information: 30 years arche noVa

"We are proud that for 30 years we have been able to give countless people around the world more dignity and self-determination. However, we observe with concern that humanitarian crises around the world are increasing and lasting longer and longer. So it is all the more urgent to continue our humanitarian work with commitment."

With the slogan "We can water. Flowing", arche noVa draws attention to its worldwide commitment for better water, sanitation and hygiene education (WASH) in its jubilee year.

The consequences of climate change, man-made conflicts and structural deprivation are increasingly leading to prolonged humanitarian crises. At the same time, many of these emergencies receive little media attention. The work of arche noVa is therefore becoming increasingly important. Already now, 2.2 billion people worldwide do not have access to clean water. With about 3.6 billion people, almost half of the world's population has no access to safe toilets - although this has been a recognised human right of the United Nations since 2010. arche noVa stands up for this human right.
