New start for ESD portal with extensive online offerings on sustainability topics

30.04.2020 - 22:46 - Germany
The portal www.bne-sachsen.de is getting a new, contemporary look at a time when a lot of us are focused on the online world due to the Corona pandemic. The relaunch is thus a positive vision of the future - despite corona, the climate crisis and many other global challenges.

„Our portal is aimed at educators in all areas of education: from kindergartens and schools to universities, from open youth work to adult education centres. It wants to serve as a source of information and inspiration for them on how they can implement Education for Sustainable Development themselves.“

Mara Kayser from the department Global Learning/ ESD in Saxony at arche noVa e.V.

For five years now, the ESD portal has been editorially maintained by arche noVa e.V.'s ESD & Global Learning unit. During the past year the website has been updated and revised both technically and in terms of content. A clearer layout and a large, precisely fitting search filter make orientation on the portal even easier. All offers and materials are assigned to subject areas that are oriented towards the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations - i.e. Agenda 2030. There is also a separate page for these goals, which is constantly updated and linked to new materials and offerings in cooperation with a campaign by the State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs. Another new feature is a page on information, advice and networking: here you will find information on the history of the portal, advice on how to become involved in ESD and a large number of other ESD-relevant websites and portals.

"With this relaunch, the networking of Saxon schools with associations, initiatives and projects for more Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) will be further expanded qualitatively and quantitatively via the established digital interface www.bne-sachsen.de. The project is part of the implementation of the "Saxon State Strategy for ESD", explains Dr. Antje Thiersch, Head of the Department of Political Education, Migration, Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in the Saxon State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs.

ESD stands for Education for Sustainable Development. It is an educational concept that encourages people to act in a sustainable way: How can I and how can we act in our everyday and working lives in such a sustainable way that the earth with all its diverse people, animals, plants and landscapes is preserved and remains a life-friendly place for future generations? Since five years there is an online portal www.bne-sachsen.de under the editorial office of arche noVa e.V., which collects materials, events, further education and bookable educational offers that help to answer this question. In addition, there are practical tips for your own sustainable everyday life and several times a year a newsletter with the latest offers, tips and events on ESD in Saxony and throughout Germany.

The number of accesses and the number of downloaded teaching examples for Saxon pedagogues has been steadily increasing: in 2019, the portal had about 23,800 visits. They reflect the growing interest in Saxony in sustainability topics and in an educational concept that lays the foundations for sustainable, future-oriented action - Education for Sustainable Development.

The portal is financially supported by the Saxon State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs and the Engagement Global gGmbH. It is professionally supported by an advisory civil society editorial board, which meets several times a year.
