ESD Offerings on the War in Ukraine

11.10.2022 - 09:48 - Germany
The escalation of the fighting in Ukraine shakes us very much and we want to express our solidarity with the people in Ukraine and all people affected by crises and wars worldwide. In order to support children and young people in processing the events, arche noVa recommends several ESD educational offers.

Project days with focus on war and conflicts

In the context of war, humanitarian aid is a central building block to assist the affected civilian population. The education project "One World = Your World" includes a project day on the topic of humanitarian aid & development cooperation. The project team is now offering this throughout Saxony with a focus on wars and conflicts. Find out more here:
Projekttag Humanitäre Hilfe

Thematically appropriate is also the project day on the topic of flight and migration, which is also part of the "One World = Your World" project. You can find out more here:

Material for teachers

BNE LogoWorking materials on the topic of peace and conflicts for school lessons and other events can also be found on the Saxon ESD portal www.bne-sachsen.de, which arche noVa is editorially in charge of. Numerous contents and offers of Education for Sustainable Development from all over Saxony are bundled there. The platform connects ESD actors and users.

The offers are structured according to subject areas; in addition to "Peace and Conflict", "Migration and Integration" is also an area that is likely to be of particular interest to pupils at present, with a view to Ukraine.

In a recent news item, the editorial team of www.bne-sachsen.de has compiled further ESD content dealing with the topics of war and peace as well as flight and migration. Current at www.bne-sachsen.de

SDG 16

With the war in Ukraine, the UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 16 (SDG 16) has just moved into the world's focus; it describes a society that aims for peace and justice. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), among other things, addresses how endangered this goal is, what it entails in detail and which challenges have to be taken on the way there. It can support us in understanding and dealing with wars and conflicts and at the same time encourage us to believe that a different, better future is possible and that we ourselves can contribute to it. This is also the aim of arche noVa's ESD education programmes.

SDG 16 (Sustainable Development Goal/ UN-Nachhaltigkeitsziel):

Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
