Because arche noVa has been focusing on good hygiene practices for almost 30 years, not just since infection with the virus became a life risk. WASH is our topic - water, sanitation and hygiene worldwide.
"In many project countries, Covid-19 reveals the deficits in the area of WASH. The need for humanitarian aid and development cooperation will continue to increase for the foreseeable future," summarises Stefan Mertenskötter, Chairman of arche noVa e.V.
The pandemic is like a burning glass. "Particularly in crisis and conflict regions, the problems have become even more acute due to Corona, especially where people were already dependent on help and support," says Stefan Mertenskötter.
The balance sheet of the Dresden-based aid organisation arche noVa for 2019 is impressive: 1.8 million people in war and crisis areas were supported worldwide. In total, arche noVa was active in 16 countries last year - either with its own office or in cooperation with one of the more than a dozen partner organisations. The amount of donations could again be increased compared to the previous years and amounted to 1.6 million Euros in 2019. Of the total expenditure of 12.9 million euros, the largest share went to the humanitarian projects abroad (11.8 million euros). In addition, the share of Global Learning and Education for Sustainable Development projects grew by more than a quarter to 502,000 euros in 2019.
Since then, the association has been intensively engaged in organisational development. In the middle of the year, a vision and mission were adopted to provide better orientation in an increasingly complex world.
"Due to the significant growth in previous years, stabilisation and structuring was urgently needed. With the foundation we were able to build in 2019, we will also be able to meet future challenges skilfully," says Mathias Anderson, Managing Director of arche noVa.
