arche noVa gives young people a voice at World Humanitarian Summit

18. May 2016 - Türkei
The preparations are running at full speed: Next Monday the “Youth in the Heart of Humanitarian Action“ conference, which arche noVa co-organizes, will take place as a side event of the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul.

About 400 participants are expected to discuss the role of young people in Humanitarian Aid.  Youngsters and young adolescents make up a third of crisis affected populations worldwide. They are violently pulled out of schools and education, they hardly have any chance to earn their own living. It is not seldom that those lack of prospects leads to resignation and/or flight or at worst to radicalization. On the other hand young people represent a significant proportion of local first responders in crisis situations and they are outstandingly committed to civic structures worldwide.

arche noVa vigorously advocates a stronger involvement of young people in Humanitarian Aid. They should not only receive aid, but also should be integrated as protagonists. For this purpose we developed a position paper. There in arche noVa undertakes to promote the training of young people in the field of Humanitarian Aid and to integrate youngsters in projects.

You can keep in track what happens in the run-up and during the event on our live blog.

On the 23. And 24. Of May the World Humanitarian Summit, the first of its kind, takes place in Istanbul. Also representatives of arche noVa will participate in the Summit.

At invitation of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon government representatives, international organizations, actors of civil population and institutions of Humanitarian Aid will lay down the tracks to face the growing global challenges in Humanitarian Aid. For months arche noVa takes an active part in the WHS process.

At the end of April the youth congress YiHA took place in Berlin
