Well construction in Mali

Safe drinking water at the schools is the focus of the project. The construction of the hand pumps requires muscle power. The local population is involved.

As soon as there is enough water, preventive health care is much easier. arche noVa provides water outlets and soap.  

So the children can wash their hands properly.  

For the victory at the football tournament on the international hand washing day there are T-shirts and a football. Motivation is the be-all and end-all if changes in daily behaviour are to remain permanent.  

The knowledge about hygiene is deepened in the newly founded hygiene clubs at the schools. All pupils should know how important the subject is.  

Even before the construction work is complete, one of the students in Kochakareye fills a first bucket with clean water.  

In order to protect the new wells and pumps, a small enclosure is built at each school.  

Selected residents of the region will be trained as bricklayers in the course of the project. Their knowledge and manual dexterity will ensure that the built facilities are maintained for a long time. At the same time this contributes to the generation of income in the region.  

Great joy for all involved when a construction project has been completed. In the middle of the arche noVa technical assistant Abdou Cissé, who takes over the planning and coordination of the work.  

Good learning conditions are now also available at the Gougoumari School. Since there is clean water and sanitary facilities, girls in particular can go to school continuously and do not have to stay at home because they have no washing facilities during menstruation.
