Every day since then, Kyazike Nubuwati has been at the pump fetching water for her family. Previously, she had to walk to the neighbouring village and pay a lot of money, or fetch water from the lake, which was contaminated with germs and pollutants.
Washrooms and toilets have also been built in Katuba. All of this contributes to better health and well-being, but also to privacy and dignity – especially for women.
To ensure that the newly built facilities last a long time, they must be cleaned, cared for and maintained. This is done by user committees in cooperation with the Suubi women's self-help group.
