Earthquake northwest Syria - emergency aid on site
The devastating earthquakes of 6 February in the Turkish-Syrian border region have left a trail of destruction. This picture is from our project region in Afrin (north-west Syria).
Immediately after the disaster, our local partner organisations in north-west Syria started emergency relief activities. Pictured here, Hamdo Al-Hassan from Bonyan distributes food in Atareb.
Whether young or old, the majority of people in north-western Syria are dependent on humanitarian aid. The earthquake has made the already catastrophic situation even worse after twelve years of war. We have adapted our ongoing project to the new emergency.
Drinking water is one of the relief supplies most urgently needed in the earthquake zone. Here, Bashar from our local partner organisation Takaful Al-Sham distributes water in the town of Jindires (Afrin).
arche noVa's projects in north-west Syria have been reaching people in informal settlements for years. After the earthquakes, many more people in need of help have moved into the tent settlements. The aid needs are immense.
The preparation and distribution of warm meals are part of arche noVa's current emergency aid in northwest Syria. Great importance is given to fresh ingredients and healthy nutrients.
In Jindires, Takaful Al-Sham staff distribute hot meals to people who were most affected by the earthquake. Around 800 people died in the town of 40,000 inhabitants.
