“Five years after the 2013 flooding in Saxony it becomes harder to imagine that many areas have repeatedly been hit by severe flooding”, Bianka Ruge says, Desk officer for disaster preparedness at arche noVa. “A new flooding still is very likely to happen.” Next to structural preparedness and an adaption of insurance coverage the planning of processes, activities and responsibilities in a case of emergency is the most important element of autonomous provision to avoid damages on people and inventory.
For this purpose arche noVa developed the handbook “Catastrophe management in associations” and offers courses and advice concerning flood prevention. With the help of the manual the affected people in the course get to know their own risk, plan security measures and define responsibilities.
As the result they work out an own prevention plan. So it becomes possible to react quickly and calm and to protect belongings.
Course contents:
Part 1: You receive your new handbook “Disaster prevention” and get to work with it:
- Risk analysis – how do I proceed?
- Instruction on the creation of a preparation plan, trainings
- Exchange of experiences
- Working out a personal prevention plan
Part 2: Review and improvement of worked out plans:
- Answering open questions
- Exchange and networking
How to introduce affected people to the prevention plan and maintain it
