Every morning we had to get up early to fetch water, and we didn't return until evening. The journey to the water source took three hours. Sometimes there was nothing left there.
Then Luul Mohammed Amir and the other people from Moyko had to use the contaminated river water. ‘It was muddy.’ Outbreaks of disease were not uncommon.
Just outside Moyko stands a large water tower with a well and pump, as well as a filtration system, all of which are maintained on site. From there, the clean water flows directly to the distribution point in the village.
Luul Mohammed Amir's family of eight collects six to seven canisters every day. Finally, there is enough water for everything – even for laundry and cleaning. In the past, pots and plates sometimes remained unwashed for days.
