Job Description

arche noVa e.V. - Initiative for People in Need is an independent non-profit and non-governmental organization (NGO) from Dresden/Germany primarily in the field of humanitarian aid, rehabilitation and development. Our main focus is on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), but we also implement project in the sectors of in Disaster Risk Reduction, Food Security and Livelihood in various contexts.

To oversee and enhance the global IT infrastructure in alignment with arche noVa's missions, ensuring maximum efficiency, robust cybersecurity, and scalability across all international country and field offices we are looking for an experienced

System Administrator (f/m/d)

Start: asap
Contract duration: 2 year’s contract with 6 months probationary period. Our aim is a long-term collaboration.
Location: Germany
Working hours: 32 hrs/week

Your responsibilities

Tasks:

  • IT Infrastructure Management: Design, implement, and maintain a robust IT infrastructure including servers, networks, virtualization solutions, and applications such as Nextcloud and BigBlueButton.
  • System Administration: Configure, update, and troubleshoot systems (servers and workstations), ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security.
  • Global User Support: Provide timely and effective technical support to staff members worldwide, addressing hardware, software, network, and cloud-based service issues via our ticket system.
  • User Accounts and Permissions: Manage user accounts, access permissions, and security settings, enforcing best practices and data protection principles in a globally distributed environment.
  • Onboarding and Training: Facilitate onboarding processes for new staff members on IT systems and procedures. Develop and conduct training sessions where needed to enhance technical skills within the organization.
  • Software Expertise: Install, configure, maintain, and customize various software applications and platforms to support our operations
  • Data Backup and Recovery: Implement, test, and manage robust backup and recovery solutions for critical systems to ensure business continuity.
  • Security Management: Proactively implement and monitor security measures across our IT systems, safeguarding against cyber threats.
  • Patch Management: Diligently apply security patches, updates, and upgrades to operating systems and applications, ensuring the highest level of protection.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation of IT systems, processes, and best practices.
  • Vendor Coordination: Work effectively with technology vendors and service providers to manage contracts, support agreements, and technical issue resolution.
  • Digital Transformation: Collaborate in developing plans for ongoing digitalization of the organization, identifying opportunities to leverage innovative solutions in support of our mission.
  • Travel: Ability and willingness to travel internationally as needed for project implementation, troubleshooting or support
Your competences

Education

  • Relevant degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or practical experience

Experience

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot hardware, software and network issues
  • Familiarity with basic cybersecurity principles and practices
  • Preferred: Experience with solutions like Nextcloud, BigBlueButton, or similar open-source platforms.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of GDPR and other international data protection laws
  • Advanced understanding of network security, cybersecurity trends, and threat mitigation.
  • Ability to create and deliver clear, concise technical trainings to diverse audiences.
  • Skilled in cross-cultural communication and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple international teams
  • Familiarity with IT asset lifecycle management and lean resource management in the context of non-profit organisations
  • English – business fluent; other languages are an asset
  • Willingness to travel
