War in the Middle East: Our emergency aid in Lebanon

20.03.2026 - 11:10 - Lebanon
Lebanon has been severely affected by the military escalation in the Middle East. arche nova is providing emergency aid to people seeking refuge and continuing its ongoing projects.

The war in the Middle East is taking a heavy toll on Lebanon. Air strikes and fighting in parts of Beirut and in the south of the country have now displaced around a million people from their homes. Emergency shelters are overcrowded, and people are camping outdoors. The need for humanitarian aid is immense; there is a shortage of basic necessities: food, water and shelter.

The current situation is unlike anything we have experienced in a long time.

As early as 2024, countless families were forced to flee their homes in a hurry to seek safety from military attacks. Now they face another flight into the unknown – and are in urgent need of humanitarian aid.

arche nova launches emergency aid for displaced families

Our team on the ground already has experience in providing emergency aid in Lebanon. We work closely with local partner organisations and coordinate our activities to ensure we can reach those most affected in a targeted manner and avoid duplication of effort. Among our most valuable contacts are local initiatives that began their work immediately after the escalation of violence. Specifically, we are once again working with a so-called community kitchen, which prepares and distributes meals to displaced people.

As part of our emergency aid programme, we are carrying out the following activities:

  • Providing people seeking shelter with ready-made hot and cold meals
  • Distributing ready-to-eat meals to people without the means to provide for themselves
  • Distributing drinking water in shared accommodation
  • Distributing hygiene kits containing, among other things, soap, toothbrushes and washing powder
  • Distributing aid packages for girls and women for menstrual hygiene
  • Distributing hygiene kits for babies and toddlers containing nappies and wet wipes

We are operating in Beirut and in communal accommodation in northern Lebanon and Akkar, where the situation has so far remained relatively calm. A particularly large number of displaced people are seeking refuge here.

Our partners include Johanniter Unfallhilfe and our long-standing local partner organisations Mada, Nabaa and Maps.

The current aid efforts are primarily focused on displaced people living in shared accommodation. Depending on needs, support may also be extended to people who have found refuge outside these facilities, whether with host families, in informal accommodation or on their own.

In the north of the country, the effects of the escalation are currently relatively less noticeable; there are no attacks taking place there at present and we are able to continue our work on our long-term projects.
