Our Annual Report 2018 is now online

02.12.2019 - 14:09 - Dresden
Our performance in 2018 is impressive: 33 projects in 17 countries supporting a total of 3.86 million people in need this year alone. The spectrum of humanitarian aid ranged from disaster relief for the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, which was hit by a tsunami, to emergency aid in the embattled Syria, to well construction in Mali and Bangladesh and school projects in Lebanon.

Our project volume for humanitarian aid and development cooperation has almost doubled in the past five years - from 8.1 million euros in 2014 to 14.9 million euros in 2018.

"We work with ever larger sums in ever more dangerous contexts. On site, we care about every single person we reach. That's why we don't let up in our efforts."

Mathias Anderson, Managing Director

The demands on aid organisations are constantly growing, transparency and structuring are therefore indispensable, especially in such a highly complex environment as WASH. The supply of clean water, safe sanitation and hygiene training is the core area of arche noVa's work worldwide and more relevant than ever in times of climate change.

" However, what is in demand in the world is not only the reaction to catastrophes or acute crises. The great global challenges can only be solved if more and more people become aware of the connections and act accordingly. For this reason, arche noVa is particularly committed to education for sustainable development in Saxony," explains Mathias Anderson.

Strong increase in donations

A central aspect of being able to act sustainably as a humanitarian organisation is the income from donations. In 2018 these amounted to 1.42 million euros - an increase of more than 40 percent compared to the previous year. The majority of the donors come from Saxony.

"For us as an organisation, private donations are indispensable in order to guarantee the independence of our work. Only in this way can we start immediate emergency aid missions, but also realise long-term projects," says Anna-Luise Sonnenberg, Head of Communications.
