A paved path
The village of Al Qurn is located at an altitude of 1650 metres on a mountain peak of the Rand Mountains, which are up to 3000 metres high, and can only be reached from the valley via a long and steep path. In September 2022, heavy rains and landslides destroyed this important path to the village. Our partner organisation Vision Hope International immediately reacted and brought food and hygiene items to the people. From then on, however, ascents and descents were very dangerous and only possible by climbing with the help of ropes. The inhabitants risked their lives with every ascent and descent. Now the path has been repaired. People from 90 households in the surrounding communities also participated in the project and were paid for their work.
Safe water supply directly in the village
In the meantime, the work for the village's water supply has been completed. Until now, it took at least 1.5 hours every day to fetch water, which was especially hard on the women and girls. Now, the water is transported directly from the spring to the village via a new pipe system. A storage tank with a solar pump at the spring and a storage tank in the village ensure the availability of the vital element directly where the people live. Each person now has 15 litres of water per day at their disposal. A total of 119 women, men, girls and boys benefit from the measure.
