The Jowhar Bile Primary and Secondary School in Jowhar, Lower Shabelle, is the most important place of learning for children and young people in the region.
Learning and teaching have long been a major challenge. School lessons were often interrupted when teachers or students needed to use the toilet and had to leave the school grounds.
Hand washing and good hygiene practices are no longer a problem in the new facilities. This is a huge relief, especially for girls. They are now well cared for at school, even during their periods.
