Especially in dry periods people have to travel long distances to get to the next water sources. There they have to line up in long queues.

Mbukilye Ngukilye Widows Self Help Group in front of on of their sand dams. The dams hold back just a small percentage of water. Thus further sand dams can be build downstram. This one was completed in fall 2016.

Last but not least, the construction of sand dams makes it easier to irrigate fields. In the project communities, crop yields are increasing noticeably.
Village meetings, trainings and workshops are a central part of this project. The topics range from climate-adapted agriculture to hygiene and disaster preparedness.
