In his speech the Deputy Township Administrator Ann Zaw Moe thanked the supporters, arche noVa and MDCG for their dedication: The help is badly needed in the communities who are particularly vulnerable to natural disasters. As the damages from the last flood that took place in summer 2015 are not removed yet. In the upcoming weeks we will have the groundbreaking ceremony and the work for the three year lasting project will start. Our objective is to improve the livelihood sustainable and long lasting for 14,500 people in 28 villages in the Rakhine State. Corresponding to our expertise the improvement of the water and sanitary supply and of the hygiene situation will be the focal point of our activities. Furthermore we will do disaster preparedness too. For the region is threatened by extreme natural disasters, like seasonal heavy rains, landslides, floods and droughts, which are intensified by the impacts of El Niño. To protect the people in the project villages in the future from disasters, we establish and train disaster relief committees and prepare evacuation plans. Furthermore we conduct frequent education events and first-aid trainings for the population.
